Fitbit Device Onboarding

Led the redesign of the onboarding experience for the Fitbit Ionic — a flagship device that introduced new complexity to the setup flow, including a long firmware update process.

The core challenge was sustaining user confidence through an extended, technically demanding setup. Research identified that users frequently abandoned during the firmware update, uncertain whether the process was progressing normally. The redesigned flow introduced clearer progress communication, contextual education about the device's new capabilities, and moments that made waiting feel purposeful rather than passive.

The project set a new standard for how Fitbit introduces users to new hardware — balancing technical requirements with a first experience worthy of a premium product.
